Lilongwe, Malawi
Founded in 1992, the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) is a leading actor in governance and electoral processes in Malawi. At the national level, it is a member of the National Elections Consultative Forum (NECOF) and the National Taskforce on the Reform of Electoral Law. Regionally, CCJP is part of the Southern African Election Support Network (SADC-ESN), and at the continental level, it contributes to the African Election Observers Network (AfEONet).
For years, CCJP has monitored elections, advocated for reforms, and trained stakeholders on electoral laws and procedures. With extensive experience in Election Dispute Resolution (EDR), Civic and Voter Education (CVE), implementing Processes and Results Verification for Transparency (PRVT), as well as Election Situation Rooms (ESR), CCJP has champions transparent and accountable governance, promotes electoral and social justice, and advances human rights. Through strategic partnerships with civil society, government, and international organisations, CCJP raises standards of electoral integrity in Malawi and across Africa.
With support from AHEAD Africa, CCJP is working to make Malawi’s 2025 elections more peaceful and inclusive by training women and youth to stand against violence so they can confidently act as local peace champions, improving citizens’ knowledge of and commitment to peaceful electoral processes, and bringing together political leaders, civil society, and institutions to discuss electoral reforms based on election observation findings and recommendations.
