The Youth Partnership Countrywide (YPC) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Tanzania (primarily operating in the Pwani region) that focuses on youth civic engagement, economic growth and employment so that they can contribute to the civic and economic regeneration of their communities.
Through leadership and peacebuilding training, civic awareness talks, public debates and election monitoring, YPC has been helping young people move from understanding democracy to actively taking part in it. By equipping them with civic knowledge, opening spaces for dialogue and supporting young political candidates, YPC has worked to bring young people closer to the decisions that affect their lives and ensure their voices are heard in shaping their communities.
With support from AHEAD Africa, YPC will take this ambition a step further through the Kijana (K-Vote) initiative. Bringing together Kijana, the Swahili word for “youth”, and “Vote”, the initiative places young people at the heart of democratic participation. In Kibaha District, it will equip 335 young women and men, including young people with disabilities, with the civic knowledge and practical skills to engage in policy and decision-making processes at local and national levels.
