The South African Council of Churches (SACC) Gauteng is part of a broader interfaith and civil society forum in South Africa that brings together diverse groups united by a shared commitment to promote justice, national reconciliation, and the eradication of poverty. With a rich legacy in social justice and activism, SACC Gauteng fosters dialogue across communities to build a more inclusive society.

This commitment is reflected in their involvement in Election Observation Missions, such as South Africa’s 2019 national and provincial elections, in partnership with the African Union, and their collaboration with  the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to promote peaceful and credible elections.

With support from AHEAD Africa, and aligned with the AHEAD approach which focuses on follow-up to electoral recommendations, SACC is pushing for key reforms in response to South Africa’s 2024 elections. These include adopting the “Zebra List” for gender parity, creating regulations to combat cyberbullying, and establishing transparent party financing rules to reduce corruption and build public trust, among other reforms.
