Research and Education for Democracy in Tanzania (REDET) is a programme based at the University of Dar es Salaam, dedicated to deepening understanding of democracy and its role in Tanzania’s political and social development.
With experience in electoral research, voter education, election observation and policy dialogue, REDET examines the dynamics shaping Tanzania’s democratic landscape. Its work brings evidence and diverse perspectives into discussions on electoral processes, citizen participation and democratic accountability, helping inform policies and initiatives that respond to citizens’ experiences and expectations.
With support from AHEAD Africa, REDET will lead a post-election study that will measure Tanzania’s trust in democratic institutions and perceptions of the 2025 general election. A structured multi-region survey will generate evidence on electoral credibility, institutional confidence, inclusion and future participation, culminating in a research report, policy brief and targeted stakeholder dialogue.
