Juba, South Sudan
The Excellence Foundation South Sudan is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building capacity and delivering essential services to the country’s most marginalised communities. Founded in 2021 to address South Sudan’s most urgent needs, the foundation works across multiple areas to improve lives, strengthen communities, and empower citizens, with a particular focus on those who are often left behind.
From villages to cities, the foundation raises awareness of public health and sanitation while providing essential services to communities in need. It empowers women by developing leadership skills and supporting their economic independence, and engages youth in technology-driven projects, digital skills training, and peacebuilding. By combining media literacy with access to technology, it strengthens communities and helps families build sustainable livelihoods.
With support from Africtivistes, as part of the Digitalise Youth and AHEAD Africa projects, and powered by the Digital Democracy Initiative, the foundation extends its work to protect the integrity of electoral information. It trains 10 young journalists, 100 students, and citizens in fact-checking and media literacy, while building a network of over 100 active fact-checkers producing reliable electoral content, and redesigning the ‘ClarityDesk’ platform and app to make electoral information more accessible.
