The Consortium of Ethiopian Human Rights Organisations (CEHRO) is a growing network of Ethiopian civil society organizations advancing human rights, democracy, and sustainable peace. Since its establishment in 2018 with just five founding members, CEHRO has expanded to 27 member organizations, becoming a leading platform for collaboration, advocacy, and civic engagement in Ethiopia and beyond.

CEHRO has been at the heart of some of Ethiopia’s most important democratic and human rights processes, including the National Dialogue Process, the Transitional Justice Process, and election observation and civic engagement efforts. The Consortium has also led joint advocacy on issues ranging from civic space and media freedom to the rights of internally displaced persons (IDPs), children’s rights, and business and human rights.

With support from AHEAD Africa, and ahead of Ethiopia’s June 2026 elections, CEHRO will strengthen its Civic Space Monitoring Tool to track civic space throughout the electoral period. The Consortium will train 35 civil society organisations to observe the elections using the tool. After the elections, CEHRO will convene civil society actors to reflect on the state of civic space and submit key findings to the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR). It will also bring together major political parties, including the ruling party, for a debate on human rights and civic space.
