Bareedo Platform is a youth-led NGO in Somalia, founded in 2015 to promote inclusive democracy. It empowers citizens — especially women, youth, minorities, and displaced people — to participate in public decisions and shape policies that affect their communities.

Bareedo has strengthened participatory democracy by running civic education workshops for youth on elections, governance, and citizens’ rights, publishing civic reports, tracking public debates, and using digital channels to amplify community voices — all while promoting digital rights to ensure Somalis can safely access and share information online.

With support from Africtivistes, as part of the Digitalise Youth and AHEAD Africa projects, and powered by the Digital Democracy Initiative, Bareedo is launching a nine-month civic tech project to engage Somali youth in elections. Their main platform will provide civic education resources in Somali, Arabic, and English, while the new app, DoorashoKaab, will make election-related information more accessible to all. The project will also mobilise 100 youth ambassadors — 60% women — to reach more than 20,000 young people, promoting informed participation, inclusion, and trust in democratic processes.
