Founded in 1983, The Association of Non-Governmental Organisations in The Gambia (TANGO) is the umbrella body for 110 national and international NGOs and CSOs in The Gambia reducing duplication of efforts and maximising the impact of development resources.
TANGO has extensive experience in civil society coordination, advocacy, capacity building, and partnerships across key sectors, including good governance, human rights, education and gender equality. Over the years, it has coordinated election observation, voter sensitisation, and public awareness campaigns, while promoting transparent, inclusive, and credible electoral processes in The Gambia.
With support from AHEAD Africa, TANGO will bring together electoral stakeholders, CSOs, citizens and cultural leaders to foster dialogue, build trust, and strengthen community-based peace mechanisms ahead of the 2026 elections. Building on the National Human Rights Commission’s research on hate speech and CSO recommendations from previous elections, the initiative will promote civic education and address hate speech, misinformation, and electoral violence before they threaten peaceful and democratic participation.
