Their participation, and the barriers they face, therefore matter deeply to the credibility and inclusiveness of the electoral process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-81d4a568374f3c92391e5243dedb271e wp-block-paragraph\">Against this backdrop, the <a href=\"https:\/\/ahead.africa\/fr\/partners\/electoral-support-network-of-southern-africa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">R\u00e9seau de soutien \u00e9lectoral d'Afrique australe (ESN-SA)<\/a> trained <strong>eight trainers <\/strong>from the<strong> <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ahead.africa\/fr\/grantee\/zambia-national-womens-lobby\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Zambia National Women\u2019s Lobby (ZNWL)<\/a><strong> <\/strong>from 29\u201331 July 2026 to strengthen their ability to observe elections through a gender lens. Through practical exercises, group discussions and mock polling-station simulations, participants explored Zambia\u2019s electoral context, the role of election monitors, and how gender-related barriers can be identified and documented throughout the electoral cycle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To put this into practice, participants were introduced to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esn-sa.org\/gender-checklist-for-free-and-credible-elections-in-sadc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"color: var(--clr-primary);\" class=\"stk-highlight\">ESN-SA Gender Checklist for Free and Credible Elections in SADC<\/span><\/a>, which provides a practical framework for identifying and documenting gender-related barriers throughout the electoral cycle. Trainers were shown how to use the checklist to capture evidence across five areas, from the legal and institutional framework to voter education, political parties and campaign finance. <br><br>The training was designed to multiply its impact. The eight trainers cascaded their knowledge across Zambia, ultimately training <strong>270 election observers<\/strong> to apply a gender lens in their observation and reporting.
