Observers are not just watching, they are defending human rights and deserve resources to do so. We must follow recommendations which should lead to real reforms. The failure to implement recommendations should have consequences for the government observed.<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Josep Borell, <em>Former High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-spacer stk-block-spacer stk--no-padding stk-block stk-e23229a\" data-block-id=\"e23229a\"><style>.stk-e23229a {height:30px !important;}<\/style><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-f4f00a3f701d78ce26c017cda1535b33\">From 10 to 12 December 2025 in Geneva (Switzerland), the Endorsing Organisations of the <a href=\"https:\/\/dop-elections.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Declaration of Principles for International Election Observation&nbsp;(DoP)<\/a> held their 20<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary Implementation Meeting to deliberate on and reaffirm their commitment to the <a href=\"https:\/\/dop-elections.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/215556.pdf\">global standards that guide credible election observation<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These same principles are also upheld by domestic election observers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Election observation is independent and impartial.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is process-oriented, not about who wins or loses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It requires timely, accurate, and public reporting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It includes recommendations to improve future elections.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is conducted with respect for national sovereignty and human rights.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Since its adoption, the number of organisations endorsing the document has grown from 21 to 54, with endorsing organisations in every region of the world.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The meeting convened intergovernmental and international NGOs to reflect on two decades of experience, review shared achievements.
